Understanding Space Through a Real Residential Site Analysis
Bangkok, October 9 – Interior Design students from Raffles International College took part in a site visit to Plan 1661 Co., Ltd., an architecture and design firm located in Bangna, Bangkok. Guided by lecturer Lonsai Kangkhao, the visit was organized to support the Interior Design Studio 1 Residential course and give students the opportunity to experience site analysis in a real project environment.
During the visit, students learned how to examine a site, measure spaces, and observe existing building conditions. They explored the site and its surroundings and collected important information needed for their residential design projects. These activities helped students understand site dimensions, human scaling, and the relationship between design and its context.
Students actively participated in surveying and documenting the site. They practiced measurement techniques, mapping, field sketching, and note-taking while learning how to organize information for future design development. The experience also gave students an introduction to on-site project management while helping them understand the preparation of plans, sections, and site analysis reports.
The visit provided a valuable hands-on experience that connected classroom lessons with real-world practice. Students responded with great enthusiasm and appreciated the opportunity to learn directly from an actual project setting. Raffles continues to provide learning opportunities like this, helping students build confidence, strengthen practical skills, and develop a deeper understanding of real-world design.
