Diploma in Fashion Design

Duration : 6 months

The module provides an extensive coverage of textiles knowledge, starting from the original source of plants to the synthesis of chemicals to produce fibres. It allows the students to analyze the different types of fibres, yarns, construction of fabrics, knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing and many other techniques that are available in the textile industry.

This module is designed to introduce the student to the development of costume throughout the major historical periods and will provide students with the ability to understand and identify the main characteristics of silhouettes, textiles, accessories for each period.

This module introduces the student to basic computing skills required for design and presentation that will enrich the students understanding of the different image file types and the common programs available for image editing, illustration, coloring and layout organization.

This module is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lecturers, demonstrations and examples to enable them to identify and apply the basic theories of colour and design elements and principles. Students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and integrated projects in order to complete this module.

Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design

This module provide participants with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to understand the fundamental rules of draping more complex garments; bodices, sleeves and collars on the mannequin or industrial dress form and analyze them.

This module encourages students to be creative within given boundaries of the surrounding environment. This is an interactive workshop that allows students to be experimental by using traditional techniques and modern techniques in order to create new surfaces, textures or decorate textiles into new mediums that are relevant to the fashion industry.

This module introduces the student to styles and trends of the 20th century and the social, political, cultural events and style arbiters that have shaped and influenced fashion from the haute couture to ready to wear.

This unit covers key aspects of research and communication studies in academic contexts relevant to students of design and marketing. Students engage in collaborative learning activities throughout the term in order to develop their teamwork skills.
Students learn to locate, understand, and critically evaluate information from books, journals, the Internet, and primary sources, in order to do effective research. Using these sources of information, students then produce an extended piece of analytical writing and give oral presentations to their peers. Bachelor of Fashion Design (Honours)

The aim of this module is to enable you to learn contemporary fashion illustrator skills, are encouraged to develop an individual style, and gain knowledge of past and current illustration methods used in the international fashion field. participants are taught key digital illustration techniques and learn how to apply these skills to complement and creatively enhance hand drawn designs. They are shown how to tell a story through mood, pose and proportion and ultimately promote the fashion ‘message’ of the illustration.

The aim of this subject is to examine the legal environment in which local and international contemporary design oriented professionals operate. It is designed to equip students with knowledge of the basic legal principles, and more generally common law systems. The module focuses on contract law and dispute resolution, duty and standard of care, tort and negligence, copyright, and personal indemnity insurance.

The aim of this module is to enable you to develop core creative pattern cutting skills through guided workshops alongside independent experimentation and exploration. You will be encouraged to extend your expertise, suited to your specific concepts, by examining creative and innovative pattern cutting processes and undertake an investigation of advanced pattern cutting techniques. The lecture/workshop series is supported by group and individual supervision who specialize in design and creative pattern cutting.

The aim of this subject is to give students an awareness of the importance of designing for sustainability in addition to providing a valuable knowledge of current sustainable technologies, materials, design innovation and practitioners. The course seeks an interdisciplinary work process where design includes technical, social, economic, ecological integrated and sustainable systems.

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them a thorough examination of public relations with practical application: developing communication plans, preparing press releases and press kits, conducting interviews, producing newsletters, house journals and speeches. Students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and commence an integrated project in order to complete the module.

Students will be encouraged through the module to develop individual identity through work, by a fusion of the design direction and the excellent craft skills and knowledge of technological developments that have acquired.
 
Students are required to complete a total of 8 outfits in Major Studio Project. This is the 1st part of a 2 parts project. In Major Studio Project 1, students are required to produce 8 looks (phototypes) for their collection using a common theme.

Students will create digital images and applying concepts relating to digital photographic processes. They will be taught the importance of photography as an important visual element of communication as a medium of expression.

This module is designed to provide students the theoretical concepts and practical tools for entrepreneurship and new business development. It aims to encourage students’ interest in starting own firm, and also to provide the skills and knowledge in managing, influencing and stimulating entrepreneurial activities. Students will engage in the entrepreneurial process, from the idea generation stage to the collection of information, further refinement of the original idea to produce business plan and idea pitching. Student will develop competencies, techniques, and skills about entrepreneurship, set within a reflective and critical approach to study business development in the modern economy.

This module covers topics which include project management processes, tools of project management, project resources management, roles and responsibilities of the project manager, project risk assessment, project scheduling, cost estimation and performance analysis, and budgeting.

This is the 2nd part of a 2 part project. Students are required to produce another 8 looks (Finished garments) for their collection using a common theme. Project 2 is completed over two semesters: Part A in the first semester and Part B in the second semester.
 
Students are required to produce a professional presentation will incorporate marketing techniques, design concepts and branding to promote your 8 outfits collection on the internet and various portfolio for their collection using a common theme. The participants would have successfully created an individual portfolio with digital and live presentation to complete this module.
 
In addition, students will present their collection to the external assessors from the relevant industry and lecturers.

This module introduces students to traditional and modern concepts of leadership, and focuses on skill and knowledge development and organizational operations, effectiveness and competition, and social responsibilities.
